Agrexco kicks offs on Barhee dates

Israeli exporter Agrexco has announced its “giant” Barhee dates will imminently arrive on the UK market larger than ever.

The 32mm dates, which can be eaten in their raw or at their semi-ripe stage, are defined by a golden yellow or amber colour and will be sold in unique, premium packaging.

The product’s export season commences in mid-July and will continue until the beginning of October.

Agrexco said: “This season, Carmel's Barhee dates are bigger, smoother and look better than ever, the result of a unique green treatment that protected them from pesticides and birds.

“At this stage, it is crispy and crunchy, sweet with a slight tinge of astringency that one has to get used to. However, once you get used to it, your palate craves this unique combination of sweetness and astringency. In its ripe stage, it is brownish and soft, sweet and juicy.

“They are a great energy snack since they contain natural sugars that provide the body with instant natural energy. They are a an excellent source for potassium, Vitamin B, calcium and magnesium.”

Ofri Dimentman, product manager in Agrexco, has reported a 10 per cent rise in exported quantities in comparison to last season, a total of 700 tonnes.
