Agrexco ceo Shlomo Tirosh is resigning after 16 years at the helm of the Israeli exporter.

Tirosh has presided over a period of dramatic change in the company's status, from a monopoly enshrined in law to a company operating in a competitive open market: Agrexco still handles about 50 per cent of Israel's agricultural exports, even though it is in competition with more than 100 other Israeli firms.

Technical triumphs include moving from air freight to sea freight for huge volumes of Israeli product and enhancing returns to growers as a result.

A statement issued on Monday made no mention of Tirosh’s reasons for resigning. Yuval Oren, chairman of the Agrexco board of directors said: “I respect Shlomo Tirosh's announcement and wish to thank him for his untiring work over the years in the agricultural sector, and for his activity in consolidating Agrexco as Israel's leading export company.” The board has appointed a search committee to find a new ceo, and I am fully confident that the company will continue its commercial activity with the success that it has shown in the past. “

Tirosh said he would remain at the firm to ensure a smooth transition with his successor: "I will stay at Agrexco as long as I am needed to facilitate the successful entry of the new ceo into the company.
