One of the world’s biggest vegetable seed businesses has appointed newly-formed Agility Agriculture as the exclusive distributor for more than half of its products in the UK and Ireland.
Monsanto, whose brand Seminis is the largest developer, grower and marketer of vegetable seeds in the world, will begin its partnership with the privately owned UK-based company from 1 September.
Agility Agriculture will take responsibility for nine crops in Seminis’ seed range, including carrots, leeks, lettuces, spinach, courgettes, fresh market peas, fresh market beans, onions and bunching onions.
The company will provide Monsanto’s producers with a range of services, including agronomic services to facilitate variety trials, technical sales advice and a locally based distribution service.
Agility Agriculture’s managing director Tom Hart, who is Monsanto’s former commercial lead for northern Europe, said: “Our primary focus is to provide our customers with an uninterrupted continuity of business in all its aspects.
“The expert advice and support that they received yesterday will be the same as they will receive tomorrow, supported by an experienced and dedicated local customer service team.”
He added: “Several members of our team have played an important role in helping to develop the existing Seminis portfolio with our grower customers and that supportive relationship will continue to grow and flourish.”
