Affinitus, which designs, develops, provides and supports computer software for the fresh produce, logistics and warehousing sectors, has more than trebled its turnover in four years after taking targeted advice from Business Link Kent.

Based near Sittingbourne in Kent, the high-tech business solutions company has seen income grow from £500,000 to £1.75 million. Affinitus now has an estimated £4.2 billion worth of produce being purchased, packed, processed and traded through its systems each year, according to the company's md Paul Hardy.

Richard Green of Business Link Kent said: “Affinitus is a group of really talented people working together developing a high-tech product meeting the needs of a niche market.”

Green first met Hardy at a local business networking event. “At the time they were so focused on developing the right products and serving their market that they had not been able to concentrate on the setting up and running of their own business,” he said. “They clearly needed to establish an appropriate business infrastructure.

“We called in a human resources expert and drew on financial advice about the range of funding available to companies such as Affinitus. We succeeded in building on the growth already achieved and eventually enabled Affinitus to take over two competitor companies and absorb their strengths.”

Hardy said: “We have come a long way since we first started talking to Richard. He has helped us conquer some very steep learning curves in terms of business organisation, given us access to excellent advice and helped broaden our vision. We shall be continuing to work closely with Business Link Kent as Affinitus expands and develops.”
