The Association of Convenience Stores (ACS) is set to state its case to the Competition Commission in June after its appointment in May was postponed.

The lobbying organisation intends to make sure the ongoing inquiry into the UK grocery market is informed by the right information.

ACS chief executive James Lowman said: “We are very worried that the Competition Commission is not going to the depths that it needs to and, if it does not get the right information now, it will not be able to act.

“But we don’t want to give the impression that the Competition Commission has a magic wand, but the sales growth is still there. The most important thing is how shops relate to their customers and how they innovate.”
