A new hand-held device for measuring fruit sugar levels was attracting attention at the National Fruit Show last week.
ACE Industrial Supplies was demonstrating its pocket-sized refractometer, which digitally calculates the brix levels of fruit on the move.
Tony Smith, from ACE, said the equipment had attracted a great deal of interest, with some people travelling from far and wide to take a look.
“It’s only been on the market for a few months but they’re selling extremely well. We’ve even done special kits for Waitrose to give to their QC staff.
“It’s digital so the readings are that much more accurate, which is vital for this sector. It can cost companies a lot of money if the readings aren’t right.”
