Greenvale AP’s seed treatment Accumulator is showing unprecedented increases in stem and tuber numbers in its first commercial harvest.

Completed between March and October, the harvest results gained from growers from Aberdeenshire to Cornwall show that Greenvale AP’s Accumulator treatment has increased stem numbers by an average of 25 per cent and some growers have found their stem numbers are up by 62 per cent.

Despite adverse planting conditions, comparisons between Accumulator-treated seed and untreated seed of the same varieties and within the same fields have shown an increase of 15 per cent in tuber numbers.

"For many years we have been searching for a method of improving tuber numbers consistently on Maris Peer without much success," said Stuart Liddell, general manger of Wrentham Vegetables which has been working with Greenvale AP since the initial trials of Accumulator. "Having now tried Accumulator treated seed, we have seen there is an improvement in numbers produced and look forward to consistent improvement year on year."

General manager of Greenvale AP’s seed operation David Rankin said he is "extremely pleased" with the results which are the culmination of years of hard work and investment.

Accumulator is only available from Greenvale AP and works by using modified atmosphere and temperatures at storage to alter the biochemical state in the eyes of potatoes to produce more potential sprouts.
