AAA Growers of Kenya has seen a double-digit growth in the past 12 months in the volume of its prepared vegetable lines going to the UK. The increase has been the result of new product development and an innovative mix of new products, according to AAA Growers managing director Ariff Shamji. The company exports premium convenience vegetables, such as baby corn, pak choi, courgettes and peppers from Kenya.

“I think there has been bigger interest in a mix of vegetables that are new to the market,” said Shamji. “Seven years ago, Tenderstem broccoli was a pure line product, and now it is a product in mixed bags and stir fries.

“We have also looked at new packaging formats for existing products for the UK market. We are moving away from plastic trays to bags, and looking at self-venting bags, steamer bags and biodegradable bags,” he added.
