Kenyan exporter AAA Growers has plans to diversify into fresh herbs and is set to have product commercially available by May.
AAA Growers’ operations director Neville Ratemo told freshinfo: “We have recently reviewed our client portfolio for the European market and have refocused on new innovations and product trends, especially for fresh herbs.
“Our trials have just started on a site in Mount Kenya, with 12 herbs, including chives, basil, rosemary, coriander, tarragon and chervil. We set up the programme last summer because we want to become more of a one-stop shop for our customers. We are now looking into the right packaging, the competition out there and relevant market analysis.”
AAA Growers has three hectare of herbs growing undercover and a further 2ha of land ready to be developed. “We are also increasing our general production by taking up a new site,” continued Ratemo. “This new site, which is next to the Aberdares, will give us leverage in terms of our growing base and the products we can grow.”
