An Emmerdale actress was honoured at the Southport Flower Show last month, when she had a rose named after her.

Roxanne Pallett, who plays Jo Stiles in the drama and is a graduate of Liverpool’s John Moore’s University, attended the show for the official launch of the ‘Roxanne Pallett Rose’ on August 18.

TV presenter Gloria Hunniford opened the show, which is the UK’s biggest independent flower show, with over 1 million blooms set in 34 acres of parkland.

The rose is a deep red hybrid tea rose, bred by award-winning rose grower Keith Jones of C&K Jones in Cheshire. The name will be centrally registered in America so that no-one else can replicate the same title.

Pallett said: "This is absolutely wonderful and all the more precious as my Grandma used to take me to SouthportFlower Show every year when I was little. It's a wonderful honour and one of which my Grandma would have been very proud.”
