Tesco has got off the mark with the Jubilee celebrations, as far as my local branch is concerned, with Union Jack bunting adorning the store.

Perhaps what’s more relevant though, and recalling my thoughts some weeks ago as to whether there would be any commemorative packs, a celebration salad mix has arrived from fresh & naked.

Appropriately styled in red, white and blue - and not forgetting a crown - it is described as a “jubilant mix of little leaves for celebratory salads”. The 90g bag contains salad rocket, tatsoi, mustard and pak choi for £1.

Tomatoes are also flavour of the month in-store with a new spin on beefsteak tomatoes - the French-labelled coeur de boeuf at 99p each.

Mixed variety packs have been around for some time, but Lidl has introduced a wide colour and size range, including a 200g pack of organic tomatoes branded Wild Wonders at £1.49. The tomatoes, grown in Holland, have USDA approval.

Marks & Spencer continues to add a little novelty to the shopping basket with its latest product for the Discovery range, the ‘Papple’, priced at £1 each. The fruit is sourced from New Zealand via Worldwide Fruit and is actually a highly coloured round pear.

Meanwhile supermarkets are hoping to increase sales by offering incentives associated with fresh produce. At Asda shoppers get 30p off a Home Pride cooking jar when they purchase the 2.5kg bag of Maris Piper at £1.90. Waitrose is running a competition to win a soup maker when shoppers buy Red Choice Portuguese tomatoes, currently on offer at two packs for £3. -
