Scottish ministers have announced a spend of £200,000 to promote healthy food in the country's convenience stores.

The retail industry will also contribute around £290,00 across Scotland to assist in the development of measures like price promotions for fruit and vegetables, and displaying fruit instead of sweets at checkouts.

The latest healthy-eating project introduced by the Scottish Executive was announced by health minister Andy Kerr, who said stores in low-income areas would be targeted. "Scotland's health is improving but not fast enough," said Mr Kerr.

Kerr's colleague Gillian Kynoch, the Execuitves's food and halth co-ordinator, will be a keynote speaker at the Re:fresh Conference on May 5.
