3663 opens flagship Scottish site

A traditional Scottish piper was on hand to celebrate the official opening of 3663 First for Foodservice’s flagship frozen, fresh and chilled distribution centre in Larbert on October 6.

The foodservice operator said that the £3.5 million depot, located near Falkirk in Scotland’s central belt, promises to be the most advanced facility of its 42 UK sites.

“Our new distribution centre firmly cements 3663’s position as market leader in frozen, fresh and chilled foodservice distribution in Scotland,” Andrew Watson, depot manager, told FPJ. “The first class facilities at Larbert will be a tremendous benefit to the industry as a whole.”

The firm began operating out of Larbert in mid-July after winning a contract to supply 750 schools in Strathclyde.

The 34,660 square foot depot houses computer controlled airflow and vacuum-sealed loading bays, as well as hundreds of sensors that constantly measure and assess temperature. Significant developments in design and technology have ensured that the depot can provide full traceability and a higher standard of cold-chain integrity to its customers.

3663 recently added more than 300 fresh produce lines to its range as part of a campaign to bolster healthier eating and believes that the relocation to Larbert will enable it to take full advantage of market opportunities.

“Our fresh fruit and vegetable business is growing daily,” Watson, pictured, said. “This new facility is the first bold step in our expansion plans. We hope to double our turnover in five years.”
