The UK’s leading foodservice wholesaler distributor, 3663 is making sustainability an inherent part of its business and future strategy.

In its quest for a greener fleet, 3663 is trialling recycled oil in its vehicles, and hopes to increase its capability further in the future. This makes 3663 the only UK major, national, dedicated food distributor to be using recycled oil.

In the 1990s, 3663 set the foodservice industry benchmark for the way it placed environmental issues at the heart of business management. It began environmental practices around 12 years ago and has continued to build upon them.

Chief executive Fred Barnes said: “We are part of the Bidvest Group, which believes in a better way of doing business - one where we don’t plunder the present; we build for the future. Being green costs money and so does creating a sustainable business, which is why it’s a hard call for big companies with shareholders who put short-term profits before long-term gain.

“Few other companies in the hospitality industry have made moves towards a more sustainable type of operation, but we need a concerted approach if we are going to make the world a more secure prospect for future generations. 3663 is ready to make a difference. We have expert credentials and a wealth of experience to share, and we hope there are others lining up alongside.”

3663 has numerous initiatives in place to ensure it is building a sustainable business - and it has concrete evidence to prove its achievements to date, supported by the fact that parent company Bidvest is one of only four South African companies listed in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index 2007.
