Matt Simister: Set to return to Tesco

Tesco chief executive Dave Lewis will temporarily run the UK business and head of Group Food Sourcing Matt Simister will return to his role, the company has announced.

Robin Terrell, who has reportedly been standing in as managing director will now become head of customer, while Jason Tarry has been appointed as head of UK commercial. All changes will be in place from 1 January.

When asked by FPJ, Tesco said it will not comment on whether former UK managing director, Chris Bush, will be returning to the business.

Jill Easterbrook will now lead the business transformation programme, while Benny Higgins will supervise group strategy in addition to his role leading the international financial services business. Rebecca Shelley will lead corporate communications.

Tesco said the changes to its leadership team mean that two roles will no longer be needed including Matt Atkinson's role as chief creative officer and David Hobbs’ position as group business planning and strategy director.

Also reportedly suspended after Tesco admitted it overstated its profit forecast were UK finance director Carl Rogberg and UK commercial director for food John Scouler. The retailer has not released a statement regarding Scouler’s and Rogberg’s future at the company.

The news comes after the Independent newspaper last week reported that all eight of the suspended executives will be leaving the business.

The UK’s largest retailer has been under investigation since September after it revealed it has overstated profit forecasts by £263 million.
