The International Potato Symposium and the International Symposium on Biotechnological Tools in Horticulture are among the highlights of Macfrut’s 42nd edition
Preparations are in full swing for the 42nd edition of Macfrut, the international trade fair for the fruit and vegetable supply chain, scheduled to take place from 6-8 May 2025 at the Rimini Expo Centre in Italy.
The three-day event will feature a packed programme of initiatives, including two globally significant events that will shine a spotlight on scientific research applied to agriculture and the sustainability of production: The International Potato Symposium and The International Symposium on Biotechnological Tools in Horticulture.
Potatoes in the spotlight
With more than 18mn hectares under cultivation in 160 countries, and over 5,000 varieties, the potato is the third most widely grown crop in the world. Macfrut 2025 will dedicate a special focus to this crop, making it the flagship product of the upcoming edition.
Coordinated by Luciano Trentini, The International Potato Symposium will be held on the first two days of the trade fair, and will feature in-depth sessions on technical and agronomic aspects, market analysis, plant health challenges and trade prospects.
The symposium will bring together leading researchers, international stakeholders, and key industry players. The final day will be devoted to technical visits to exhibitors’ stands.
Biotechnologies shaping the future
One of the major new features of the 2025 edition will be the International Symposium on Biotechnological Tools in Horticulture, promoted by the International Society of Horticultural Science (ISHS) and organised by the Marche Polytechnic University.
For the first time, Macfrut will host an event that combines cutting-edge biotechnological research with the practical needs of the production chain.
The symposium will focus on technologies used during in vitro propagation and the development of new resilient varieties, with scientific sessions exploring key topics such as genetic quality, sustainability, and adapting to climate change.
The aim is to strengthen dialogue between academia and industry in an increasingly demanding and fast-evolving environment.
A forward-looking trade fair
Alongside these two high-profile events, Macfrut confirms its international outlook and its ability to anticipate future trends in the industry.
Business, networking, and certified content come together in a format that continues to attract companies, buyers and institutions from all over the world. Macfrut 2025 is shaping up to be the most comprehensive and innovative edition yet – an unmissable event for anyone seeking to understand where the fruit and vegetable sector is heading.
