Fruit and vegetable producers can benefit from a new retail outlet with the launch of online ‘farmers' market’ Bonativo.
The London-based startup, which launched this week, allows consumers to shop for local produce online, and get it delivered at home without having to wait for the next farmers’ market day. It also aims to give farmers, growers and food producers access to a wider customer base.
It currently has 50 producers signed up, including Lincolnshire vegetable and salad producer Ted’s Veg and Isle of Wight suppliers The Tomato Stall and The Garlic Farm. All orders have a minimum value of £30 and are delivered within two days.
After launching in Berlin at the start of this month, Bonativo is now available to shoppers across London zones one and two, as well as all South West postcodes.
Co-founder Christian Eggert, said the company helps small, local businesses to remain sustainable by helping them reach a wider audience.
“We want the region’s best products to be available to as many people as possible. Our platform has been designed as a central space for food-makers and consumers to meet and share the things they care about,” he said.
Orders are picked up by delivery drivers the day after they are processed. They are then delivered to a central London warehouse, and sent out as one delivery to the customer’s house.
“We select partners who make products you can‘t find anywhere else, products that are genuine because they are hand-picked and hand-crafted by passionate specialists,” Eggert added.
“Through our website, we’re bringing people together for whom food means more than just interchangeable products on a supermarket shelf.”
The company currently employs 15 people and is supported by internet platform Rocket Internet.
