Empire World Trade (EWT), Branston and Azura were among the winners at Tesco’s produce supplier of the year awards last week, where G’s Marketing took home the top gong.

Potato supplier Branston was presented with the Nurture Award for Environment and Community for its commitment to reducing its environmental impact at the awards in London.

EWT won the Nurture Award for Varietal Development for its Evelina apple.

Azura was named International Supplier of the Year for the northern hemisphere, while Subsole won the corresponding gong for the southern hemisphere.

G’s was named the Overall Produce Supplier of the Year, also scooping the salad award.

Norton Folgate was named top fruit supplier, with Kettle Produce on top for vegetables and Greenvale taking home Organic Supplier of the Year.

Individual growers recognised included Richard Scripps for Adrian Scripps Ltd for fruit and Richard Turner of G’s for salad. John Allen of Emmetts was named veg and overall grower of the year.

Graeme Beattie, md of Branston, collected the firm’s green award in front of 700 other guests from the Tesco produce team and supply base. “We are absolutely delighted to receive this award from Tesco, which is a reflection of the hard work that has been put into reducing our carbon footprint,” he said.
