Dutch produce distributor HM de Jong is organising a tour to celebrate the opening of its new cold store for fruit in Ridderkerk on May 10.
The new site, co-financed by the EU Life programme, aims to minimise CO2 emissions of cold stores by 70 per cent by using natural refrigerants and a special air distribution system. Its 20- metre height should also help to reduce CO2 output.
SenterNovem, the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs agency, and NEKOVRI, the association of Dutch cold store owners, will organise a themed day of seminars on the same date, to be held nearby the new cold store. The Dutch organisation of technicians and scientists in refrigeration technology, NVVK, and the Dutch organisation of contractors, producers and wholesalers in refrigeration technology, NVKL are also co-organising the conference for 250 visitors, which will be called ‘Environmentally-friendly and energy-efficient refrigerants’.
