The big four supermarkets have come top in a new report investigating customer concentricity and consumer attitudes towards customer services.

The research, carried out by international marketing consultancy dunnhumby, investigated eight sectors, namely supermarkets, airlines, car insurers, high street banks, mobile phone operators, fixed-line telecom providers and electricity suppliers. The results rank specific brands according to how customer-focused consumers believe them to be.

Of the 58 companies surveyed, Tesco came fourth, Safeway-Morrison’s fifth and Asda and Sainsbury’s tenth and eleventh respectively, meaning the supermarket sector came top of the eight industries in the spotlight and are regarded as nearly twice as customer-focused as the runner-up, the airline industry.

Supermarkets were also assessed to be number one at improving relationships with customers over time.
