UK vegetable breeder Tozer Seeds is launching its kale-sprout hybrid under the name Kalettes in Australia.
Distributed solely thoroughly Victoria-based supplier Fresh Select, Australian Kalettes will be grown by Brussels Sprouts grower Eastbrook Farms.
It is being promoted as the first new vegetable to be launched in Australia for over 10 years, and will be available in Australian retail chain Coles Supermarkets from mid May 2015.
Fresh Select managing director John Said said: “The vegetable category hasn’t seen this extent of innovation since the release of Baby Broccoli which hit our shelves almost a decade ago. Grown like Brussels Sprouts on the stem of the plant, Kalettes really are the innovative and delicious way to enjoy eating old favourites with a completely new makeover.”
Flower Sprouts were first sold in the UK in 2010, before being launched in the US in 2013 and expanding further across the globe.
