Sainsbury’s has announced its first Organic Hero of the Year awards this week with top honours going to a vegetable grower.
Lars Lange of Arrow Organic Vegetables beat off stiff competition from producers across all sectors to win the accolade for fresh produce and his production of lines such as carrots, leeks, brassicas, beans and sweetcorn. "Arrow is one of our key suppliers and is a really innovative farm," said Sainsbury’s organic produce buyer Anome Oyetey. "As producers, they are really trying to push the boundaries with new products and promoting biodiversity."
Sainsbury’s the UK’s top organic supermarket for the last two years, decided to introduce the awards for the first time this year. "It is a way of recognising the very hard work our suppliers do for us," said Oyetey.
