German fresh produce trade association DFHV has created a new management committee to look after a range of issues to do with product quality.

The working group is chaired by Global Fruit Point’s head of quality management Thies Claussen, with Volker Kötting of Frutania named as its deputy chair.

According to DFHV managing director Andreas Brügger, the committee’s creation was “long overdue” and brings together expertise in the field of quality control from across the industry – including production, wholesale, imports and retail.

“The committee offers a very open, pan-industry exchange of experience that only exists in this form within DFHV,” he commented.

Quality management is already a key focus for the association, which has a network of quality management officers who work for its individual member companies, as well as a national crisis team.

The new committee will address various issues to do with food safety, standards and certification, including compliance with the Supply Chain Due Diligence Act – a German law that came into effect on 1 January 2024 and which requires companies to take responsibility for human rights and environmental issues in their supply chains.
