Fruitnet Tomato Congress takes place in Malaga, Spain, on 11-12 November 2025, with a focus on the future of the tomato business, examining the category’s continuing response to the changing climate, labour issues and evolving consumer demands
Fruitnet Tomato Congress 2025 will be held in Malaga, Spain, on 11-12 November, featuring a day of talks, discussions and networking, followed by a day of tours.
The event kicks off with key insights into the major trends shaping the category, including topics such as supply dynamics, technological innovations, sustainability and changing consumer demands across Europe.
With shifting sourcing patterns influenced by climate challenges and geopolitical factors, experts including David Del Pino, managing partner at Freshtrategy, and Andriy Yarmak, formerly at the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), will examine how these changes will impact production in Europe, as well as key growing regions in North Africa, the Mediterranean and Central Asia.
Sustainability takes centre stage with a focus on how climate change is affecting tomato production, particularly in southern Europe, and we hear what this means for the sourcing strategies of importers and retailers.
The role of innovation will also be explored, with a look at automation and technological solutions to address labour shortages and improve efficiency across production and logistics.
Panel discussions will touch on the efforts of seed companies to boost resistance, especially to extreme conditions, the future of branding in the tomato category, and the ability of the business to evolve to meet future consumer demands.
