The delicate Ataulfo mango, previously only transported by air from Peru, is now available by sea, according to Dutch organics distributor Eosta

Eosta’s organic Ataulfo mango, which has always been airfreighted due to its “delicate nature”, is now arriving from Peru by ship, according to the Dutch organics supplier.

Ataulfo by boat

Ataulfo is known for its creamy texture and sweet, fibre-free flesh. “This new method preserves the quality while saving CO2 emissions by a factor of 30: from 8.8kg per kilo, to just 300g per kilo of mangoes,” Eosta stated. “By choosing the sustainable boat version of our Ataulfo mango, you actively contribute to more environmentally friendly transport. And costs are saved.”

For this and various other sustainability efforts, Eosta won the bronze EcoVadis medal for 2024. EcoVadis is a globally recognised sustainability rating that evaluates companies on their performance on the environment, working conditions, ethics and sustainable sourcing.

“Bronze may seem modest, but it places us in the top 35 per cent of companies worldwide, indicating that we are at the forefront of sustainable business practices,” Eosta said. “The EcoVadis assessment is rigorous and requires comprehensive evidence of our efforts across all sustainability themes. By measuring and improving our progress annually, we ensure that we continue to contribute to a better future.”
