The Dutch organics specialist says that a combination of rain-grown and organic cultivation is the ultimate in water efficiency

Dutch organics importer Eosta has announced that its Tanzania supplies of organic rain-grown avocados are now available. These are set to be followed by arrivals from Brazil in week 15-16 and from Kenya after week 17.

Eosta supplies the avocados year-round thanks to its diverse sources including Mexico, Tanzania, Brazil and Kenya. The avocados grow entirely on natural rainfall, it said, without irrigation, which helps to preserve scarce drinking water resources in those countries.

The company said it was a “powerful alternative” at a time when water availability is under pressure worldwide. It believes a combination of rain-grown and organic offers a concrete answer to sustainability goals within CSRD.

“Thanks to organic farming, the soil contains more organic matter, making it retain up to 100 per cent more water at root level,” it stated. “Less evaporation, better moisture regulation and better drought resilience - even in cultivation systems where irrigation is required.

“Several studies show that organic cultivation systems have significantly lower water requirements than conventional cultivation. In some sectors, they are even more than three times more water-efficient.”

Eosta said it saw growing interest from consumers in lower-impact products, with the company receiving regular e-mails enquiring where rain-grown avocados are available. “That is the power of a product with real impact,” it said.
