Yamato fruit weigher

Yamato's Alpha Advance multihead weigher

Yamato is inviting soft fruit growers and packers to its Leeds site to demonstrate its new weighing and tray filling equipment in a series of ten open days later this month.

The new line, which includes a punnet filling depositor, is based on Yamato’s new Alpha Advance multihead weigher, which has a high frequency load cell and is designed for high-speed weighing.

Visitors at the open days, which run from 21 November to 2 December, will get to see the line in operation and the company’s sales and technical team will be on hand to answer questions.

In a press release, the company said: “Fruit processing is driven by growing consumer demand for convenient products such as potted ready-to-eat fruit salads. But fresh fruit producers have been hesitant to adopt automation in their processing because of concerns about bruising delicate fruits and bags of product bursting – which can increase wastage and lead to hefty retailer penalties.

“Consumers are strongly swayed by the visual quality of the produce – shape, colour and visual defects. Accurate weighing and careful handling of soft fruits such as blueberries is critical. Yamato’s newly developed fruit weighing and tray filling line can help soft fruit and berry processors to improve their margins by speeding up production while minimising damage.”

Andrea Spencer, commercial operations manager for Yamato Scale Dataweigh UK, added: “We are delighted to be in a position where we can demonstrate Yamato’s new fruit weighing and pot filling line to its full potential. We are looking forward to welcoming new and existing customers in the soft fruit and berry sectors to see how we can help them improve their bottom lines.”

Growers and packers can register to attend via the Yamato website.
