The top fruit development committee of leading UK apple and pear marketing group WWF has planted two substantial new variety observation plots in East and West Kent including the first plantings in the UK of New Zealand variety Jazz.

There are more than 300 trees on the two sites growing eight different varieties including Jazz and Taylors Gold. In addition to these two varieties from the Enza stable, the sites also feature some leading new varieties from French top fruit propagator Davodeau Ligonniere including a range of Braeburn clones that are likely to interest UK growers.

The observation plots are being monitored by WWF-Qualytech over the next five years and the WWF's top-fruit development committee is already planning to plant further new varieties that will be of interest to UK growers in future seasons.
