Writtle College students will travel to Chelmsford, Essex next month to receive their specialist degrees at the college graduation ceremonies to be held in Chelmsford Cathedral.

Some 280 students will shake hands and be presented with their degrees by principal of the college, Professor David Butcher. Alongside him at the ceremony on Thursday, September 10, will be Nigel South, pro vice-chancellor of the University of Essex, while Dr Tony Rich, registrar and secretary at Essex, will be appearing at the other ceremony the following day.

Alan Titchmarsh, college patron and celebrity gardener, will be in attendance on the Thursday to honour students from undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Business, Conservation and Agriculture, followed by an afternoon ceremony for Horticulture, Design and Floristry students.

An honorary doctorate will also be awarded to Liz Lake in recognition of her contribution to the landscape architecture industry, an honorary fellowship will go to Charles Notcutt in recognition of his services to Writtle College and the horticultural industry and the Duchess of Kent award will be presented to Dr Clive Beale, a member of the academic team at Writtle for more than 25 years.

The Students’ Union Rag charities, Macmillan Nurses and Childhood Eye Cancer Trust, will receive cheques from the money raised throughout the year through charity activities.
