Event gave growers opportunity to share best practice and discuss key threats and opportunities in horticulture
Worldwide Fruit hosted its annual Jazz Apple Symposium on 13 August, bringing together UK growers and international guests to celebrate a successful year for the brand.
Taking place at Howfield Manor Hotel in Chartham, Kent, the event gave UK producers an opportunity to share best practice ahead of the picking season, and to discuss key threats and opportunities in the horticulture sector.
Headed by Worldwide Fruit’s technical and performance development officer, Jeremy Linsell, the symposium also aimed to help growers “ensure continuous improvement across the orchard and the supply chain”.
According to the fruit distribution company, extensive marketing activity over the past year has helped the brand hit record sales, aided by increased availability in UK supermarkets.
Growers at the event included Chandler and Dunn, DG Long, and A Hinge & Sons.
In addition, Woldwide CEO Steve Maxwell, commercial director Hannah McIlFatrick, and procurement and technical director Tony Harding were all in attendance.
McIlfatrick said: “It’s been a busy year for Jazz from a commercial and marketing perspective, so this annual symposium is a great way of keeping the growers and key stakeholders informed of our successes, challenges and opportunities.”
She added: “With the picking season fast approaching and the apple’s popularity continuing to rise, it’s also a great opportunity to meet face to face, share best practise, update growers on the latest innovations and data findings, plus plan for the future.”
