FTA chief executive Richard Turner said: 'It was the government's intention to publish the regulations early in 2003, but it now looks as if final regulations will not be available until mid-June. With the directive being implemented shortly after there is little time for the association and its members to come to grips with the legislative requirements.' The FTA maintains important questions still need answering regarding hybrid working, non-mobile staff who drive and the calculation of the night work average.

Two seminars designed to help members of the road transport industry are planned. They are to be held on June 12 in Leeds and June 24 at Heathrow. Delegates will learn how to calculate the new limits and how to comply with the new legislation and enforcement procedures. More information is available at www.fta.co.uk.

The FTA will also have a stand at this year's Institute of Logistics and Transport Show at the ICC in Birmingham June 17-18 to provide assessments on how the new regulations will affect individual businesses.
