South Africa's leading exporter of avocado and mangoes has formed an alliance with one of Chile's largest fresh fruit exporters, Subsole.

Westfalia is well represented in European markets with its own sales offices in the UK, Holland and Switzerland, and a marketing partner, Comexa, in France. Subsole represents a substantial proportion of Chile's avocado growers.

Claus Lippert, Westfalia's executive manager, said: "Chile naturally complements the South African avocado supply season. We have been actively looking for supply partners in the region for a number of years. In Subsole, we believe to have found a supply partner who shares Westfalia's values of service, quality, integrity and environmental and social responsibility. This alliance illustrates the vision of like-minded, world class suppliers to collectively market avocados in the different European markets for 12 months of the year under the Westfalia brand".

"Westfalia prides itself on its research and technical backup as supported by relevant accreditations. Similarly, Subsole has impressed us with the depth of support they provide their growers and customers," he added.

President of Subsole, Miguel Allamand, said: "The international fruit business is, in our opinion, facing a new era in which the competition amongst countries is transforming into close collaboration to better serve our customers and growers. The old days are gone - we need each other and when working together the results are outstanding on the commercial, productive and personal levels.

"We are proud to be associated with Westfalia and believe that by combining our technical and marketing efforts we can improve the level of service to our customers, by giving them an extended season of reliable avocado supply.”
