Vitacress staff have raised £1,540 to help a breast cancer charity.

Daryl Phillips, of the salad giant, ran his third London Marathon, completing it in 4 hours, 49 minutes and 36 seconds, and raising £680 for The Haven Charityin the process.

Phillips' colleague Ann Tenison also contributed to the total by teaming up with a group of mums from her childrens' school to organise a 20k sponsored walk, which raised £860.

A ‘big cheque’ was presented to The Haven on Friday (29 May) at its new centre in Titchfield, Hampshire, which is due to open in August.

Ann Tenison, marketing and communications manager at Vitacress, said: “Vitacress is delighted to support this fantastic charity and to be handing over, we hope, the first of many cheques.

'We are really proud of Daryl running his third marathon and hope he will keep on running for The Haven. We were overwhelmed with the generosity we received for our sponsored walk. My Fitbit tracker showed we walked over 30,000 steps and due to the hilly nature of the walk, the equivalent of climbing 125 floors.

'Everyone at Vitacress is keen to continue raising money for The Haven and lots of ideas are being considered for further fundraising events. The charity offers valuable support to families to make a real difference at a very difficult time.”

The Haven team works closely with NHS partners to go beyond medical treatment, to help service users and their families cope with the wider impact of breast cancer through one-to-one personalised, specialist care.

Its fourth centre in Titchfield began refurbishment in January 2015. This centre will cover the whole of the Wessex region. To cover purchasing, refurbishing, and converting the building into a Haven, as well as providing initial running costs for the first two years, the total projected cost for the Hampshire Haven is £2.5 million.
