Victoria Trading will increase its speciality tomato production in the Canary Islands this season.
The company’s Andrew Zerpa told FPJ: “We have several new projects that should amplify our product portfolio.
“These include an increased area of speciality mini plum tomatoes to supercede Santa and a significant increase in cherry vine and beef tomato production.”
Victoria Trading is also busy with a trial of 42 pepper varieties.
Zerpa has predicted that round tomato, large vine tomato and cucumber areas this season will remain at similar levels to 2007-08, although the area devoted to organic tomato and cucumber production will rise by 10 per cent.
“Overall we are very optimistic about the forthcoming season and are excited to see how our new product developments perform,” he said.
Within the next 12 months, Victoria Trading’s parent company, Bonny, is on course to double its wind and photovoltaic energy production capacity.
“This will mean that we will be producing enough energy to meet all of our desalination needs many times over - some six million litres of water produced daily - without the need to burn a therm of gas or other carbon- based fuel,” Zerpa explained.
