Veggies call on businesses

The Vegetarian Society is calling for businesses to get involved with the National Vegetarian Week, which will take place from May 19-25 this year. Now in its 16th year, the annual campaign promotes inspirational vegetarian food and the benefits of a meat-free lifestyle. The society is appealing to all companies, from big corporations to small businesses, as well as community groups and schools, to get involved with the week.

The Vegetarian Society, an educational charity promoting understanding, knowledge and respect of vegetarianism throughout the UK, has compiled a National Vegetarian Week action pack for businesses, containing ideas on ways to use NVW to promote products and services, as well as free posters, banners, stickers and consumer leaflets to promote the week.

The keynote market assessment report on vegetarian foods forecasts that from 2007-2011 sales of vegetarian foods will continue to grow at a rate of between 6.2 per cent and 7.5 per cent, year on year. In 2006-2007, the total UK vegetarian foods market was worth £718.5 million.
