Is it really a year since many of us decamped to Berlin for last year’s Fruit Logistica? A lot of water has passed under the bridge since then and, as with every year, the industry descends on the German capital with a new agenda and - hopefully - renewed vigour.

The last 12 months have not been without their ups and downs, but the industry’s largest annual trade gathering gives us all a window to cement our exisiting relationships, sit at tables and bars with colleagues we haven’t had face-to-face contact with since last year’s event, and hunt down the new opportunities that could make a difference to our businesses in the next 12 months.

This week’s bumper issue of FPJ looks at some of the topics that will feature in the conversations of exhibitors and visitors alike. The battle to be the greenest retailer hots up (p50), while the industry’s marketing machine continues to create new and improved superfoods (p56). And the genesis of those superfoods is still the oft overlooked research station - so we look at the sources of some of the more unusual hybrids coming into the market (p64).
