Univeg Katopé UK has taken delivery this week of the first new season grapes from Univeg's own farm in Brazil.

Fazenda Europa is one of the largest grape farms in the South American country covering around 150 hectares in the São Francisco Valley. The production facility has its own water supply and is licensed to grow Sunworld varieties such as Sable and Midnight Beauty.

The first consignment contained Thompson, Crimson and Sugraone and black varieties will start to arrive in the first week of November.

The season will run until January and early indications are that a very hot and dry growing period has had an impact on yields which Univeg Katopé UK reports are some 20 per cent down year on year across the crop.

The company will bring in more than 40 containers over the course of the Brazilian season.
