Tomato Conference to focus on taste

Syngenta’s fifth Tomato Conference is set for May 19-21, at the NH Conference Centre Leeuwenhorst, in the Netherlands.

Whereas the fourth conference, held in Sicily in 2005, focused on the need to offer a specific tomato variety for each purpose, the activities of this year’s event will revolve around taste.

This year, the conference will concentrate on consumers’ increasing demand for taste, featuring a broad panel of speakers from different sectors and backgrounds, who will be discussing the issue during the event.

Changing food attitudes, taste influence and how taste shapes consumer choices in the marketplace are just some of the issues that will be addressed at the conference, which ultimately aims to offer its participants “innovative marketing solutions and services, with added value that goes far beyond the product”.

Fulvio Berton, Syngenta Seeds vegetables global crop leader for tomatoes and peppers, said: “This year’s conference will have a different focus. In recent years, we have moved downstream to cover topics related to tomato consumption, rather than issues related to production, the original focus of our attention when this event began.

“The reason for this change is that we have seen the growing influence and importance of consumers.”
