There’s something quintessentially British about not wanting to shout about our strengths.

I’m always amazed when I come across companies that seem embarrassed to admit publicly that they’ve made a profit, or are quietly building impressive facilities. We should be proud of our achievements, and let the world know about them.

So this week, we’re going to do it for you. We keep hearing that international growers are reconsidering supplying Britain, but have a look through this issue and you’ll see why this is still a world-leading place to trade.

With the London Olympics and the Queen’s Jubilee, there’s never been a more exciting time to be involved in this country.

And as Virgin boss Sir Richard Branson explains in our exclusive interview on pages 26-27, now could actually be the perfect time to be starting out in business.

Of course, this market wouldn’t be the diverse and vibrant place it is without the fantastic range of imported produce and international businesses operating here. They have played a crucial part in making British supermarkets among the most impressive in the world and long may it continue.
