Israel was showing off ‘Tiger Tomatoes’, a cherry tomato with black stripes, at Fruit Logistica in Berlin last week.

“It acquires its attractive sweetness by having salt water poured over it”, according to Yiftach Yechie, product manager for Carmel Agrexco, Israel's largest exporter of fruit and vegetables.

The company was also showing off Miranda, a tomato that has been bred from the ‘Raff’ variety, and looks rather like garlic.

“It is picked when green and mainly retains this colour. It has a very sweet taste,” said Yechie

Both varieties grow well in the Arava valley in south-eastern Israel.
