The Institute of Horticulture (IOH) has voiced its support for Defra's science and innovation strategy.

New funding allocations include: crops for energy and industry (£1million), organic farming (£0.2m) and rural economies and communities (£0.5m).

Professor Geoff Dixon, IOH president is delighted. He said: 'We welcome the concept that Defra's policy decisions are based on scientific evidence.' Defra's science minister Lord Whitty said: 'We recognise that the science we shall need in five or 10 years time is likely to reflect emerging priorities and new scientific developments, as well as the goals which we are setting in this strategy.'
