Tesco introduces mini mangoes

Mini mangoes have hit the shelves at Tesco.

The bite-sized treats, known as Ma Prang in their native Thailand, are intended to meet the growing demands of the UK snacking market.

The fruit is roughly the size of a plum, with smooth, sweet flesh, and a skin that turns from green to yellowy orange. The skin is edible and tastes similar to that of a plum.

Tesco mango buyer Tom Nicholson said: “Everyone loves mangoes because they’re sweet, juicy and tasty, but try taking them out of a kitchen environment and you’re likely to end up pretty sticky.

“You hardly ever see a mango in an office environment, at a picnic or even being eaten on the go because of their immense juiciness, which tends to run everywhere.

“These little beauties will give mango fans the chance to pack them for journeys, and allow them to be eaten at work or outdoors with the minimum of fuss.

“More and more people are choosing healthy snacks such as fruit and nuts these days, which is why we are actively bringing in more mini versions of the most popular fruit,” he added.

A punnet of four Finest mini mangoes is priced at £2.79.
