A teenager just 4ft 4in tall has begun legal action against Kwik Save, where he was made to stack shelves without a ladder.

Scott English told an employment tribunal that he suffered from dwarfism and had felt humiliated as customers cracked jokes. He also felt victimised by his supervisor Vera Barsby.

After three years working at the Kwik Save store in Whittlesey, near Peterborough he resigned. English is claiming that his treatment amounted to discrimination and victimisation.

He added that he was made to push cages around the store that were 6ft or 7ft tall. English said that he suffered work-related stress and depression. He was prescribed anti-depressants and stayed off work for six weeks, finally resigning because of the unpleasant atmosphere at the store.

He said he had never read about Kwik Save's staff grievance procedure because the notice was on a board six feet up in the staff canteen.

Barsby has denied making any jokes about the teenager. The hearing continues.
