Consumers can taste Thai produce from June 2-9

UK shoppers will be able to sample exotic fresh produce from Thailand this month, as a series of tasting events is launched in Tesco stores.

The tasting sessions will feature mangosteen, rambutan, lychees, dragon fruit and longans, and will take place at 150 Tesco stores from June 2-9. Shoppers can also pick up an eight-page information booklet on Thai exotics, entitled Thailand - Paradise of Exotic Fruits. This will include facts on the produce being sampled, as well as guava and pomelo, and include a competition to win one of three eight-night holidays to Thailand.

The Thai Ambassador His Excellency Mr Kitti Wasinondh will launch the initiative at the Tesco superstore on West Cromwell Road, Kensington.

The promotional activity has been organised by Thailand’s department of export promotion, ministry of commerce, and supported by the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Thai Airways International and Royal Orchid Holidays.

It will also be supported with an article on exotic fresh produce from Thailand in the June/July issue of Tesco’s newly branded Foodie magazine, which has a circulation of one million.

Miss Banjongjitt Angsusingh, executive director of the Thai Trade Centre, said: “We are absolutely delighted to launch this Thai sampling initiative in Tesco stores. Thailand is the source of a wide range of delicious fresh exotic produce, and the UK market is showing excellent growth as more shoppers are purchasing from the exotics category.”
