Taste of Birmingham takes new tack

Michelin-starred chefs, award winning restaurants and local producers will be meeting in the Midlands next month for this year’s Taste of Birmingham event.

Taste of Birmingham 2009 will run in Cannon Hill Park from July 9-12, providing four days of food and drink exhibitions and demonstrations.

Moving away from using TV chefs, the region’s top chefs will be demonstrating the home-grown talent that has won three heart of England restaurants - Purnells, Simpsons, Turners of Harbourne - Michelin stars this year.

Food fans will be able to buy 'crowns', the currency of the festival, and stroll from restaurant to restaurant exchanging them for whatever they fancy, from classic French and modern British grub to the finest Italian, Indian and Far Eastern cuisine, while enjoying entertainment provided by musicians from the region.

To give visitors a real flavour of produce from Birmingham and the surrounding counties, regional food group Heart of England Fine Foods is heavily involved in the event.
