The British Tomato Growers’ Association (BTGA) is gearing up for the British Tomato Conference (BTC) on 26 September 2024.

This year’s BTC is themed around balancing business and environmental sustainability. And it brings together growers, suppliers, allied industries, retailers, and researchers.

The event will include industry and technical updates, Q&As, and a chance to connect with the latest technology and developments in the tomato sector.

Speaker and panel sessions will focus on sustainability – in the market, in energy, in the environment, in succession, and in finance.

There will also be opportunities to hear about the latest technology and developments in crop protection, energy, seed breeding, packaging, glasshouse equipment, and CO2 enrichment.

Speakers include Kantar’s consumer insight director for produce, Laura Fry, NFU chair Martin Emmett, and HSBC head of agriculture Martin Hanson, among others.

Around 40 trade stands and sponsors are expected.

The day will conclude with a conference dinner, where Professor David Hughes will be speak about opportunities and challenges for the fresh produce sector.

The event comes at a challenging time for the British tomato sector, which has been hit by significant delays to tomato seed and young plant imports from the EU following the introduction of new phytosanitary checks.
