Peviani SpA of Milan, Italy, and TALI Grapes of Lachish, Israel have been appointed to market new seedless grapes developed by Sun World International, LLC. The nomination of the Italian (the first European marketing licensee) and Israeli companies enables them to export and market fruit from the new varieties produced by licensed Sun World producers throughout their respective countries..
The new appointments are the first licensees within the northern hemisphere where Sun World, outside of its own California production, anticipates licensing the production of meaningful quantities of new seedless grapes for distribution to key markets in the UK, the European Continent and the Far East. Additional marketer appointments are pending in other northern hemisphere countries.
“TALI Grapes and the Peviani Group bring superb grape knowledge, and valuable production and marketing skills to Sun World’s international supply platform,” Sun World senior vice president David Marguleas said. “As Israel’s leading grape producer and marketer, TALI is a key supplier of seedless grapes from the Middle East to Europe. The Peviani organisation is well-regarded for their marketing savvy and the innovative ideas they bring to European retailers. As our first European marketer licensee, Peviani sets a high standard for our future appointees to meet," he added.
In addition to Peviani SpA and TALI Grapes, Sun World has appointed grape marketers in Chile (Dole Chile SA, Unifrutti Traders Ltda., and Frutera Santa Maria SA); in Australia (Perfection Fresh Australia (Pty) Ltd. and Growers Choice/Vine Fresh (Pty) Ltd.); and, in South Africa (Capespan (Pty) Ltd, The Grape Co. (Pty) Ltd and Dole South Africa (Pty) Ltd). These 10 grape licensees will market grapes grown by Sun World producers under a managed planting system in five grape growing countries.
The grapes to be marketed include a wide range of white, red and black seedless varieties developed at Sun World’s California-based Research & Development Centre. The fruit is sold under private trademarks and brands such as MIDNIGHT BEAUTY®, SCARLOTTA SEEDLESS®, SABLE SEEDLESS® and SOPHIA SEEDLESS®. These products join the company’s flagship Sugraone variety grape that is marketed by Sun World and its licensees under the SUPERIOR SEEDLESS® trademark.
Sun World has established a fruit licensing program that involves more than 1,000 producers and leading marketing companies in most of the world’s major fruit-growing regions. Its new variety development work focuses on a full range of fresh grapes with extraordinary characteristics such as enhanced flavor, distinctive taste, larger berries and clusters, earlier and later ripening times and availability, and increased productivity. The California company also develops new plums, peaches, apricots and nectarines for its own production and for other growers to produce under license.
Similar stonefruit marketer appointments have been and will continue to be made in Europe and Israel, as well as in Chile and South Africa.
