Stubbins Marketing has once again opened its doors to school-children as part of its ongoing commitment to raising awareness of the merits of fresh British produce.
In conjunction with Somerfield, the company played host to 43 children from the Theydon Bois primary school, teachers and parents, at a pepper fun day at its Waltham Abbey Nursery, last week.
Mike Corcoran, commercial manager at Stubbins Marketing, opened the proceedings with an informative slideshow, explaining how peppers are grown and how the process is aided by nature.
A tour of the nursery followed, with a competition based on facts learned throughout. Each child profited from some sweet peppers to sample back at school over lunch, as well as a Somerfield goody bag. The party was also given miniature plants to develop at school to learn how to cultivate crops on a small scale.
Jeff Fitch, Somerfield technical solutions manager, said: “This was a great opportunity to introduce local British-grown produce to our next generation of customers.”
Stubbins commercial director Peter Turone also highlighted the benefits of such activity. “With all the recent interest in children’s eating habits and poor food knowledge, we thought it would be good to play a role in their education,” he said.
“Being a British pepper grower we wanted to highlight to our younger consumers how great locally grown peppers can be. The children and adults alike were interested to see the care taken and the dedication of our nursery team in growing an exciting range of peppers,” he added.
