'The future is bright, the future is Spitalfields,' John Olney, chairman of the Spitalfields Market Tenants' Association told diners at the association's annual dinner and dance last weekend.

Olney was speaking to an audience of 426 that included tenants and their guests.

'...With the co-operation of all interested parties, three markets into one will become a reality,' said Olney, referring to the recent Saphir report on London's wholesale markets.

'The tenants at Spitalfields are ready to play their part.' The association also welcomed as its guests: Cllr Falzhur Ramhan, the mayor of Waltham Forest; Peter Halliday, the master of the Worshipful Company of Fruiterers; Daniel Caspi, the chairman of the market committee of the City of London; and the leaders of the tenants' associations of Borough, New Covent Garden and Western International markets and office holders of the Fresh Produce Consortium.
