Somerfield's sales creep up

Overall group sales have risen by 1.1 per cent, with Somerfield store sales up by two percent while Kwik Save store sales fell slightly by 0.1 percent over the 12-month period.

Somerfield said the increase in like-for-like sales is because of the rollouts of its store refit programme and from the improvements to store operations and product ranges. Executive chairman John von Spreckelsen said: “The store renewal programme is benefiting our customers in both the Somerfield and Kwik Save fascias. The renewal programme and portfolio alignment for both fascias will continue with pace to strengthen the groups position in an increasing competitive market place.”

Yesterday, the UK retailer announced it would pull out its Kwik Save stores from the Scottish market by closing most of supermarkets and rebrand the remainder to Somerfield by the end of this year.
